Absolutely everything from Stanislavsky to Second City to Spinal Tap to Whose Line is it Anyway to contemporary theatre to jazz music oh my god the list can go on and on.
“There are people who prefer to say ‘Yes”, and there are people who prefer to say ‘No’. Those who say ‘Yes’ are rewarded by the adventures they have, and those who say ‘No’ are rewarded by the safety they attain.”
Keith Johnstone ‘Impro: Improvisation and the Theatre’
I love this line from Mr J or Keith as I would have called him if I had met him. It’s kind of brutal and inspiring and something I constantly fail to do but continue to strive to emulate.
In my classes I try my very best to create a safe and structured environment where you can muck around with this ‘Yes’ . If you can practice saying ‘Yes’ you connect to your spontaneity and creativity and I think KJ is right, you have adventures.
I hope you can join me on this 8 week adventure in impro. Starts April 16th.
