Acting

I graduated from the John Bolton Theatre School in 1996, quickly hooking up with two other Kiwis to form the  comedy physical theatre group The 4 Noels.

the4noels

The Noels devised and performed narrative musical comedy shows which were performed in festivals around Australia, New Zealand and Edinburgh for eight years during which time they were twice nominated for the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Barry Award. Also the 4 Noels devised shorter works for the Comedy Festival Road Show which toured Australia and Asia. ‘The trio that spells comedy gold…‘ (The Age) got some pretty rave reviews, and several awards and noms, including two Best Comedy Awards at Melbourne and Wellington Fringe Festivals, two Best International Act nominations at the New Zealand Comedy Festival, and a Moosehead Award.

Solo Work

I am also a solo theatre practitioner, and devised my first solo show for the 2005 Melbourne Fringe Festival. A rewritten version mounted at the La Mama Theatre in 2007 was subsequently nominated for a Green Room Award.

Get-Smart

“Whilst James is the only actor, we are never made to feel as if it we are watching a solo production.  His transformations are fantastic. James’s physicality coupled with the way in which he embodies, such diverse characters, is phenomenal”Sara Caputo, Melbourne.Arts.Fashion

James Pratt

This grinning, patronising character is a delight to behold. Pratt, as Flange, is confrontational, intimate, engaging and very, very funny. He creates a contemporary clown that challenges us with language and comedy.

Film and Television

I’ve worked on the ABC’s Miss Fischer Murder Mystery series. I actually got to wear a genuine woollen suit from the 20’s.

I’ve done heaps of Ads… is that a good thing? Not sure good money though.
