Acting Studio Intensive

Everything I’ve learnt and taught, packed into a 4 day intensive

What do you get?

  • How to easily break down a scene and bring it to life
  • How to embody your character, make it unique, make it yours.
  • How to use improvisation to learn lines and make your performance really pop.
  • How to develop character and connect to other actors.
  • How to use play to unlock your unique style to the work

This will be a fun place to play and learn and deepen your skills

Well.

Who am I?

I currently teaching at Deakin University as unit chair of Improvisation and lecturing in Acting studio, Theatre Production and Production Lab.

I have a Honours Degree in Creative Arts where I focused on play and the ‘flow state’

I have also been lecturing Heightened Performance at Federation University.

I have taught at these two Uni’s for the last 8-10 years.

I spent 20 years as an actor and artistic director of two independent theatre companies. I have written and performed 6 solo shows.

I’ve performed for many years with physical theatre company Born in a Taxi as well as Bunk Puppet theatre.

I’m still an actor, mostly for TV. I’m still doing screen tests and auditions and working in front of camera.

When it comes to live performance I am telling stories in a duo with my wife. They are mythopoetic stories/ fables. It’s a unique style of performance that still requires many of my performance skills just in slightly different blend.

My approach

I have a great blend of both the ‘inside out’ approach to performance and the ‘outside in’.

What on earth does that mean?

In my earlier days of training I was doing everything. Training in Stanislavsky’s ‘System’, learning and practising improvisation with ‘theatresports’ and ‘playback’ theatre as well as completing my Post Graduate Diploma in Drama. So a real mix.

Then I trained in the European physical theatre traditions of mask and physical theatre and devised theatre.

I teach Acting Studio at Deakin, I’m lecturing and running workshops that look at the psychological approach to performance and the physical approach and I’m loving it.
