Teaching

2026 has been a busy year. It kicked off as unit chair in improvisation at Deakin University as well as lecturer in Theatre Production where I directed the 2nd year students in a production of the Australian play ‘Anthem’.

Second trimester I’m back at Deakin teaching Acting Studio and Production Lab where we are devising an original work. I have been teaching at Deakin over many years and it’s always a great place to lecture in.

I’m also back at Federation University teaching clown as part of their heightened performance unit. Once again a performance course I have teaching at for over the last 5-6 years.

For three years I taught performance at the National Institute of Circus Arts and in the dim distant past, also for about three years, I taught character and improvisation at Victoria University’s performance course.

I have run Extreme Character workshops at the Malthouse Theatre as part of the their outreach program for secondary schools.

Living as I do in Geelong I have also taught improvisation and performance for the screen at the  Grace Acting Studios in Geelong. (2014- 2015)

What do I teach?

Great question. Here is the list

  • Improvisation
  • Stanislavsky system or ‘inside out’ approaches to acting and script work
  • Physical or ‘outside in’ approaches to acting and script
  • Clown
  • Mask
  • Theatre making
